Location - UTM x: 500245.5 m, 4151173.5 m (NAD83). Gage is located in La Veta, CO, off Francisco St, at the Walsenburg pipeline discharge into Wahatoya Lake Reservoir. Take Hwy 160 west of Walsenburg, CO, turn left on CO 12 and continue to La Veta (CO 12 becomes Main St.), Turn left on Francisco St. and follow to top of hill, turn left into Wahatoya Lake access and gage is straight ahead. NEMA box with satellite telemetry is located ~100-ft east of weir on hill.

Drainage Area and Period of Record - N/A-- conveyance pipeline/point of diversion. Period of Record: N/A

Gage - Measuring Device: 6-ft Cipolletti weir. Weir is old. In Summer 2010 new pipeflow meter measuring device is scheduled to be installed at which time gage will be moved to point of diversion at Cucharas River. Currently gage is located at pipeline outflow because no adequate gage facilities exist at point of diversion. Gage consists of stilling well and intake to weir pool, shaft encoder (electronic stage sensor) logged and Tx'ed to satellite by Sutron Satlink2. Reference gage is metal staff gage on west side of gage pool (as of Aug. 2009 staff gage reading requires a +0.03-ft correction).
